Freeze-drying, or lyophilization, is a process of removing moisture from a product while preserving its structure and quality. It involves freezing the product and then reducing the pressure to allow the frozen water to sublimate directly into vapour. For more info on the Science behind freeze drying and why its useful, read our knowledge base article here.
Dehydrated foods are typically produced using high heat to remove moisture, which can compromise nutritional value and limit shelf life to less than a year. This method is most often used for vegetables, as many animal-based ingredients, such as meat, can become tough, shrunken, and less appealing when exposed to heat. In addition, the higher residual moisture left behind can increase the risk of oxidation and spoilage, creating an environment where bacteria may develop over time.
Freeze-drying offers a very different approach. By using a low-temperature process, moisture is gently removed while helping to preserve up to 98% of the food’s original nutrients. This method supports long-term storage, with freeze-dried foods widely recognised for shelf lives of up to 25 years under the right conditions. Because the structure of the food remains largely intact, meals are able to maintain their natural colour, flavour, and texture, delivering a result that feels much closer to freshly prepared food.
Net weight refers to the weight of the food in its dry form, excluding the pouch and any added moisture.
Rehydrated weight is the estimated weight of the meal once water has been added and the food has returned to its ready-to-eat state.
We include both values to help you make informed choices. The rehydrated weight gives you a clear idea of how much food you will have to enjoy, while the net weight shows how lightweight and easy the product is to store or carry.
Advantages include long shelf life, minimal loss of product quality, and the ability to store products at room temperature without the need for refrigeration.
Because our meals are freeze-dried, carefully sealed with oxygen absorbers, and protected in high-barrier, metal-laminated pouches, they are designed for long-term storage. Under the right conditions, the shelf life is projected to reach up to 25 years.
No, our meals are made without the use of chemical preservatives. Instead, we rely on a carefully designed preservation process that includes freeze-drying, and high-quality packaging. Together, these methods help extend shelf life while maintaining the integrity and quality of each meal.
Once opened, but before adding water, store the contents in an airtight container and consume within 14 days.
Once the meal has been reconstituted with water, keep it refrigerated and enjoy within 3 days for best quality and safety.
Preparation instructions and exact water quantities are printed on the back of every pouch.
Add hot water directly to the pouch, stir if required, reseal, and allow it to stand for a few minutes.
Each meal is designed to rehydrate quickly and conveniently.
Boiling water will give you the best taste and texture when preparing your meal. If boiling water is not available, very hot water can still be used with good results.
In more limited situations, even cold or room-temperature water will rehydrate the meal, although it may take a bit longer and the texture may vary slighlty.
Our products are freeze-dried, they don't need any refrigeration and are perfectly fine at room temperature.
We are developing specialized product ranges tailored to the nutritional needs of consumers managing chronic health conditions, including diabetes.
Store products in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight. Once opened, follow the storage instructions on the packaging.
